How to create SRT file Using Notepad:
Creating SRT File using Notepad is the most popular and accessible ways. You can make subtitles for any movies or videos by following this method.
Step 01: Open Notepad from the Start Menu. In Windows 10, you can open it by searching on the taskbar/Cortana search or by following the path of Start>All Programs>Accessories>Notepad (Windows 7 also)
Step 02: Here you have to divide the time into hours: minutes: seconds, milliseconds. For creating the SRT File, you have to follow the below format for all the individual SRT Text.
- You have to divide all the subtitles quotes into number section. So, For the first subtitles write 1 (Without the Quotes) and Press Enter.
- Now write the time of the starting and the end of the first captions. Never forget or skip the milliseconds. (See the below images)
Note: You will get the milliseconds of your video from any video editor including Windows Movie Maker or Camtasia.
- Write the Time Limits according to the below format. Suppose the first word “Thank You.” and the time limit is 00:00:15,000 –> 00:00:20,500. Then you will write the ‘1’ for first and Enter, then Time Limit and then the subtitles or quotes.
Step 03: Following the same ways do the same work for the second the quotes. Type 2 and Press Enter and then the time limit and Enter and the Subtitles or Quotes. In the example of SRT file “I shall place the sorting hat
on your head…”
- 00:00:20,500 –> 00:00:26,900
Step 04: Following the same ways do the same work for the second the quotes. Type 3 and Press Enter and then the time limit and Enter and the Subtitles or Quotes.
- 00:00:26,900 –> 00:00:31,400
Step 05: Do it for rest the SRT quotes in the video or movies. It’s no matter how much the length, confirm you have taken all the quotes as text with one by one number. I have made the SRT file of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, “ and it crosses the number 1000 and it was nearly 1126.
Step 06: When you will finish all the quotes as input on the Notepad, you have to save it. If you save it, as usual, it will be saved as .txt. But you need to save it as .srt. For this reason, you will choose the All Files as the document type. For doing this, go to File and Click Save As. Now give the File with the extension .srt and in the below see you will find Save As Type and Select here All Types. Then it will be saved as SRT File.
